If alpacas bring gentleness and Angus cattle stand for strength, then sheep remind us of the simple, familiar joys of life. At Carven Hills Resort, our flock is not just part of the farm-it is a living echo of the grasslands, a reminder of humanity’s timeless bond with nature.

1. Sheep – Humanity’s Ancient Companions

For thousands of years, sheep have been one of humanity’s closest animal partners. They provide wool, a treasured material for weaving, as well as milk, meat, and cultural symbolism across civilizations. In Western art, the pastoral scene of shepherds and their flocks has always evoked peace and harmony.

At Carven Hills, our sheep carry this legacy. Small, gentle, and covered in soft, cloud-like wool, they wander our pastures like drifting puffs of white. Many visitors can’t help but smile, calling them “little clouds roaming the hills.”

2. A Day with the Flock

Every morning, we guide the flock out to the meadows. They move together like a tiny choir, beginning their endless feast on the green slopes. Sheep are naturally calm, social animals. They cluster in groups, sometimes just standing quietly, their bright eyes curiously following our guests.

For children, the experience is unforgettable-feeling the softness of wool, hearing their playful bleats, and even laughing when a cheeky sheep snatches a carrot from their hands.

By evening, as the sun sinks over the valley, the flock scatters across the grass, resting quietly like living pieces of a peaceful landscape. Many guests choose this very moment to simply sit and listen to the wind, finding a sense of stillness rarely found elsewhere.

3. Meet & Greet Sheep – A Heartwarming Encounter

Our “Meet & Greet Sheep” tour gives visitors the chance to engage directly with the flock. With a basket of hay or grain pellets in hand-their favorite treat-you’ll be surrounded by trusting eyes and eager noses in no time.

Beyond feeding and photo opportunities, we also share how we care for our sheep, the shearing process (done in spring to keep them cool and healthy), and the timeless role of wool in fashion and craft. Watching soft white yarn spun from the very fleece you’ve just touched is often a delightful surprise for many visitors.

4. Sustainable Value of Sheep

Sheep are more than a joy to meet-they represent sustainable farming in action. By grazing naturally, they help maintain pastures, reduce weeds, and enrich the soil. Their wool is a renewable, eco-friendly resource increasingly embraced by sustainable living movements.

Here at Carven Hills, we see our sheep as a bridge between past and future: a reminder of how humans once lived in balance with nature, and a path forward toward greener agriculture.

A Pastoral Feast

Of course, sheep also hold a place at the dining table. Naturally grass-fed and pasture-raised at Carven Hills, lamb meat offers a tender, flavorful, and nutritious experience. On summer weekends, our outdoor barbecues bring this to life-lamb grilled with local herbs, paired with a glass of red wine.

But what makes these evenings truly unforgettable isn’t just the food-it’s the setting: the crackling fire, the flock grazing peacefully in the distance, and the laughter of friends and family. It’s connection – between people, nature, and the essence of the farm.

5. An Invitation from Carven Hills

 from Carven Hills

If alpacas teach gentleness and Angus cattle embody strength, then sheep embody the quiet beauty of togetherness. They remind us that joy can come from the simplest things – a soft touch of wool, the whisper of wind through the grass, or the golden sunset over the hills.

Carven Hills is more than a destination. It’s a place to slow down, to hear the rhythm of nature, and to rediscover the peace that modern life often forgets. Come join us, and discover just how delightful our sheep truly are!
